Our network
The people behind the Gateway
Our network brings together researchers, educators, and passionate individuals working across disciplines. Together, we’re building stronger connections between science, society, businesses, and public institutions—to protect and celebrate biodiversity
The National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC).
The NBFC is Italy’s first national research center fully dedicated to biodiversity. Funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with support from the EU’s NextGenerationEU program, the center brings together experts from universities, research institutes, and businesses. Its mission? To develop innovative strategies and technologies to monitor, protect, and promote the rich diversity of species and habitats across Italy.
The researchers behind the science
They are the guardians of biodiversity, the researchers who devote their lives to the study and protection of living ecosystems and species. Through their work they analyze the impact of human activities and develop strategies to preserve biological diversity.
Through their discoveries they help ensure the natural balance for the future of our planet, protecting vital resources for generations to come.
From Venice to Palermo, a living network
The physical gateways in Venice and Palermo coordinate a series of diffuse locations that, together with protected areas, represent the biodiversity network in the territory.
A physical network that is intertwined with the Biodiversity Gateway, the portal that connects and enhances biodiversity information, manages its knowledge, and makes it usable and usable by all.

The Steering Team
It is the working group that gives direction to the Biodiversity Gateway.
The team works cooperatively, without hierarchies and by areas of expertise: spatial, vision and digital. All dimensions that intersect to govern the project.

The technical and operational team
Behind the scenes, a multidisciplinary team keeps the Biodiversity Gateway running.
These professionals bring expertise from across domains, turning biodiversity research into concrete tools, services, and solutions. They ensure the platform grows with clarity, coherence, and impact.

Where the digital gateway comes from
The Biodiversity Gateway is rooted in the experience and expertise of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) and the people who drive it forward.
It’s a shared effort to bridge science and society, ensuring that biodiversity knowledge is accessible, practical, and useful for everyone.
