The research vessel Gaia Blu represents a key infrastructure for marine science in Italy. As a state-of-the-art platform equipped with advanced instrumentation, Gaia Blu supports a wide range of scientific activities, ranging from oceanography and biology to geology and atmospheric sciences.

Gaia Blu is the main research vessel of the National Research Council (NRC). The technological and instrumentation upgrade completed in 2023 enables the ship to conduct comprehensive studies in the fields of geology, oceanography, biology and atmospheric sciences, both in the Mediterranean Sea and in the oceans, including polar areas.

The operational management and arming of Gaia Blu is entrusted to the Department of Earth System Sciences and Technologies for the Environment (DSSTTA-CNR).
