Biodiversity Gateway of Palermo is based on the University Campus and activities are coordinated by UNIPA with support from the NBFC Hub and researchers from CNR-ISMAR.
Major activities include:
Bioprospecting Laboratory
Thanks to the university’s expertise in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, a laboratory dedicated to the development, scale-up and technology transfer of new nanopharmaceuticals and diagnostic systems derived from the results of the NBFC project will be established.
Technology Development
One area of the Gateway will be dedicated to the enhancement and accessibility of the results of the 8 NBFC spokes, promoting training, technology development and transfer activities. In close synergy with the Venice Gateway, the activities of UNIPA’s Digital Transformation and Technology Transfer HUB will also converge, offering advanced services to research and business.
Institutional and European Collaborations
Development of activities with European partners and Italian institutions (Ministries, Regions, Local Authorities, ISPRA, JPI, etc.) involved in biodiversity policies and implementation of relevant European directives.
Capacity Building (VET)
Actions dedicated to vocational training and technical skill building.
Education and Culture of Biodiversity
Educational activities aimed at schools, families and citizens, with the goal of fostering the spread of a culture of biodiversity in the medium to long term.
Dedicated educational paths
In cooperation with the Teaching Learning Center (TLC-CIMDU), specific paths will be developed for schools, with preparatory classroom activities and thematic visits to museums, foundations and science laboratories.
