The Naples Node of the Biodiversity Gateway has two locations dedicated to biodiversity and marine geodiversity with special reference to the Gulf of Naples:

  • CNR ISMAR spaces, in the Port of Naples (84 m²), focused on the geodiversity and biodiversity of the seabed and coastline of the Gulf of Naples and Gulf of Pozzuoli.
  • Anton Dohrn Zoological Station – Casina Pompeiana, in the Villa Comunale of Naples (240 m²), with focus on the marine biodiversity of the Gulf of Naples.

Both venues will host advanced outreach, education and training activities with multimedia equipment and immersive technologies.
The exhibition routes will offer a virtual immersion in the Gulf of Naples, a hotspot of bio- and geodiversity influenced by natural factors and anthropogenic pressures.

The vision is to transform scientific knowledge into a concrete, accessible and shared experience through flexible and modular proposals that foster STEAM learning and skill development.

Main activities include:

  1. Science workshops and hands-on experiences, to gain skills on biodiversity observation and analysis methodologies.
  2. Scientific outreach and interaction with the public through guided tours and immersive multimedia tours of the riches of the Bay of Naples.
  3. Co-design of inclusive events, with active student contribution to events, exhibitions and outreach activities.

Thanks to the double articulation on two locations and the collaboration between research institutions, schools, universities and citizens, the Naples Node aims to be a permanent center of scientific-environmental culture, capable of integrating different knowledge and sensitivities to face ecological challenges and build a new responsible relationship with nature.
