About the Initiative
We are your biodiversity portal —
making the National Biodiversity Future Center’s knowledge and tools accessible and useful for everyone.
What is the Biodiversity Gateway
It is the digital infrastructure that connects scientific research and society, making biodiversity knowledge and innovations accessible.
The Biodiversity Gateway’s physical offices, in Palermo and Venice, coordinate branches spread across the country and protected areas, while the online platform facilitates the sharing of information and sustainable solutions.

Our goals
- Telling the story of biodiversity
- Through stories, learning resources, and citizen science, we help people connect with biodiversity — making it feel real, relevant, and part of daily life.
We show why it matters, and what’s at risk if we lose it. - Humanizing research
- We share the people behind the science — highlighting their stories, passions, and discoveries.
By making research more relatable, we help inspire curiosity and future generations of scientists. - Sharing knowledge, creating impact
- We turn research into something people can use — connecting science to decisions, policies, and everyday actions.
Biodiversity isn’t just a subject — it’s a resource for society, and a responsibility we all share.

- Driving solutions
- Narrating biodiversity also means supporting the transfer of scientific discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace and supporting the development of startups and companies in the biodiversity sector.
- Fostering shared responsibility
- Talking about environmental responsibility, sustainability, intergenerational equity and the countless benefits of maintaining and protecting biodiversity influences everyday choices.

The Biodiversity Gateway Network
The people, teams, and institutions behind the Gateway are the beating heart of this project.
They work together to grow the network, protect biodiversity in all its forms, and turn knowledge into impact — locally and nationally.
