The variables of ecological restoration success

Staff Avatar

The success of ecological restoration depends on many variables: level of degradation, persistent disturbances (such as eutrophication and invasive species), ecosystem resilience, spatial scale of intervention, and quality of planning. Large-scale projects are more effective but more prone to failure; therefore, a good understanding of local ecological dynamics is essential. Fundamental tools are environmental mapping and modular planning, capable of adapting interventions to the contexts and time frames needed.
