Ecological restoration does not always require drastic interventions. In many cases, eliminating degradation factors-such as pollution or habitat fragmentation-can trigger processes of natural regeneration, that is, spontaneous recovery of ecological functions. When this is not enough, assisted regeneration, or outright reconstruction, takes place. Each action is calibrated according to the level of damage and the ability of the ecosystem to recolonize, recover biodiversity, and return to a state of stable equilibrium.
