Global warming: a new viticulture is needed

Staff Avatar

Earlier harvests and increased alcohol levels are among the most significant consequences of climate change on viticulture. Research has analyzed its effects on historic wine regions such as the Piedmont and Napa Valley. To mitigate these changes and ensure the sustainability of wine production, producers, the study suggests, will need to select new , more resistant vine varieties and adopt innovative practices such as canopy management and the use of kaolin, a mineral that, when distributed over vegetation, reflects light and protects clusters from sunburn.
