Bats: the nightlife of two major cities

Automatic recorders in Florence and Rome to detect the presence of bats. It is through this monitoring that more than 15 different species of bats have been detected in the cities of Rome and Florence. These small flying mammals, which feed mainly on insects and help keep populations of mosquitoes, flies and other pests under control, are critical to the balance of urban ecosystems and are an indicator of good environmental health. The wide biodiversity identified in the study surprised the researchers themselves, who call for the protection of these animals.
